Dental Braces

The majority of people have some degree of malocclusion which is most commonly a result of misalignment of the teeth or/and insufficient room for all permanent teeth. Malocclusion can be usually corrected by an orthodontic treatment that includes removable retainers or fixed braces which move the teeth into proper alignment. Malocclusions that require a dental brace should be treated as soon as possible but fortunately for all who did not start or complete orthodontic treatment in childhood, it is never to late for tooth straightening with a dental brace.

Nobody is to old for a dental brace. However, when reaching a certain age the traditional braces of stainless steel are unacceptable for the majority of adults for one or the other reason. Fortunately, there are also series of less obtrusive solutions. Very popular are "clear" braces made of ceramics or plastic in color of the teeth which are equally effective as metal braces but are more brittle and often cause more friction. Lingual braces that are fitted behind the teeth are even more discreet but are said more difficult to adjust to because they can hinder tongue movement. A popular alternative to dental braces are clear removable aligners such as Invisalign but are appropriate only for minor misalignments.

Before deciding which dental brace to choose it is important to inform yourself both over advantages and disadvantages of certain type of brace. It also might be wise to consult with more than just one orthodontist over different options including the total price of the treatment. Dental braces are quite expensive especially if you are considering alternatives to traditional metal brace. Prices of dental braces greatly vary from orthodontist to orthodontists and there can be great differences in prices. However, keep in mind that inserting a dental brace is just the beginning of the tooth straightening which in average lasts at least for two years.
